Southern Fried Catfish Recipe


  • 4-6 whole catfish or catfish filets cleaned
  • 1 quart peanut oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper


  • Rinse catfish and pat dry with paper towels. Pour vegetable oil into 5-quart Dutch kitchen appliance and warmth to 350º F on a deep fry measuring device. whereas vegetable oil is heating, whisk along flour, cornmeal, cayenne pepper, salt and black pepper till well-combined. gently coat either side of catfish into flour mixture then rigorously place into Dutch kitchen appliance, sauteing solely 2 at a time, till gently tanned, regarding 5-8 minutes. take away from Dutch kitchen appliance and place onto a towel lined plate to empty. Serve like a shot.
